You don't really lose the translation. They are stored in the database  
as well. The external files are only necessary for the xslt  
translations and for transporting language files from one server to  
another.

To save the files, all you need to do is to grant the webserver  
write-privilege to the locale driectory (in the ipath directory)

(please note, iPath-2 is still in development and has yet a number of  
bugs, but a stable version is almost finished. I am sure Jorge will  
again bundle it into this XAMPP package)
