you could put simply this somewhere in an include file

if( !function_exists('file_put_contents') ){
   function file_put_contents($filename, $content){
     $fp = fopen( $filename, "w+" );
     fwrite( $fp, $content );
     fclose($fp);
   }
}

then it will work on php4
