caret 5.65 won't even run on rhel 5.7 unless you mess with glibc. I
installed an older version for colleague. graphics driver or not, rhel4 may
be a bit ill advised at this point.

and drawing borders is counterintuitive and hard and slow before you get
familiar. and it might have the odd bug, I think sometimes on linux I have
to cancel the dialog and restart it, or never switch surface, or always
switch surface or something. at this point it's motor memory, so I'm not
sure but there is a niggle I think. sometimes you draw a section, confirm
and it vanishes. so I do it again. that doesn't happen much these days, so
I must have learned something somewhere.

if the actual graphics card were the problem would maybe expect other
problems than very specifically "updating borders in caret". maybe not
though.
