Colin, the basic message is, the volume data is fine, my observation was due to a problem with fslview.
You can see the different time-courses for different fslview versions in the attachement of my previous post. The FSL change logs are generally not very detailed: http://fsl.fmrib.ox.ac.uk/fsl/fslwiki/WhatsNew#anchor1 But there is an entry "FSLview patch for HCP" in one of the recent minor updates. Please consider contacting the FSL guys if you need more information.
