It's not too much work; in fact it's my standard practice for careful review of commits prior to release. (Well, that and following the commit RSS feeds.) But recently I was on leave and wanted to review, but I didn't have access to anything more than a Web browser. While good Web-based tools would have helped me in a pinch, they're generally useful. They dramatically lower the barrier for other interested parties to carefully follow development. Releases and regressions are two important use cases that come to mind.
