In my view the current implementation is broken with regard to standard system maintenance tasks. You're sending output to a file that cannot be rolled or otherwise maintained. Not just any kind of output, but output that grows as a function of authentication count. For our systems that restart on the timescale of months, this is an issue. I would imagine it's an issue generally for high-capacity deployments. A fix for this needs to go into the next release, whatever its number. I'm happy to work on it if you want to assign to me.
