Leah,

Welcome to the list!

The JASIG-CAS server runs as a Java servlet so you need to have an appropriate
servelt container, like Apache Tomcat (free). Other containers include
middleware like IBM Websphere or Oracle Weblogic. At Lafayette College, we are
using Apache Tomcat.

As far as I can tell, there is no requirement that you need to run CAS on its
own server, though in practice, that is what we do.

The specifications for your server would probably be better based on statistics
about actual logins into existing systems you have rather than just the number
of accounts. E.g. if some accounts are mostly dormant, it doesn't make sense
to beef the server up to account for them. On the other hand, a small number
of accounts may perform frequent logins/logouts per day.

Unicon is probably one of the most popular consultants in the CAS space. There
are others listed on the Jasig-CAS website.

Thanks,
Carl Waldbieser

Subject: [cas-user] Setting-up CAS integration

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the forum for my rudimentary questions on CAS
so, you'll have to forgive me! I am a librarian (who doesn't come from
a technical background) and I have been tasked with investigating the
starting points for settings up CAS authentication.

We have just invested in a new resource discovery platform called
Enterprise (SirsiDynix) for the library and we would like a seamless
integration between the club's website and our new discovery platform,
so members won't have to sign-in twice. SirsiDynix are only unable to
provide us with information on setting-up a CAS server, which we've been
told by one of their consultants would be required.

Has anyone had experience with setting-up a server for CAS? Does the
server need to be a stand-alone (separate) server or can we use an
existing server (assuming space)?

We have approximately 17,000 user records in our library database - how
should we determine the what size the server should be?

Does setting-up a CAS server require any specific software and if so are
these freely available and straightforward to configure?

Can someone recommend any specialist companies who specialise in CAS
integration?

I hope someone can help or possibly point me in the direction of where I
can find the answers...

Many thanks!

Kind Regards,

Leah
