Are you sure it isn't the CAS 2.0 protocol running on the CAS Server
version 3.0? I can't imagine that the SaaS provider has exclusively
adopted the CAS 3.0 protocol, although there is a mod to the CAS 2.0
protocol code [1] that makes it like CAS 3.0.

I'd check out https://github.com/Unicon/cas-adfs-integration. The sample
application can be used almost without modification (except perhaps [1]
to mimic the CAS 3.0 protocol, if needed). This method delegates CAS's
user authentication to ADFS via WS-Federation.
