We went straight to 4.0.1 too. It was a bit of a pain with regard to getting attributes to work for the services, but I got it all figured out (and submitted some documentation update requests based on what I learned.) If you're doing straight CAS without worrying about passing attributes along, that upgrade took all of 15 minutes. We did the upgrade from 3.5.1.
