Seasons greetings fellow CASPERites, and best wishes for the new year.
We were doing the CX-4 nylon washer retrofit on our full complement of
iBOBs, and on one of them the CX-4 basically fell off the board when the
hardware holding it down was removed. The solder connection between
the SMT pins and the board seemed exceedingly light on solder, flimsy
generally and probably dry in this case. Clearly keeping the hardware
snug is crucial for mechanical support when mating and disconnecting
XAUI cables, we actually cycle these quite often in development.
It looks like it will be quite difficult to repair this with a fine
soldering iron, because the two shorter pins lying between adjacent long
pins basically lie under the connector body. Probably reflow soldering
was used to assemble. Has anyone had this problem, and can you offer
any advice on repairing it? Should I just send it back to Digicom for
repair?
Regards,
Jonathan
