Hi all

We have completed a preliminary survey of ROACH's power consumption.

Using a Claypower CP-01025 ATX supply (as bundled with the i-star 1.33U chassis) off a 220V, 50Hz supply and measuring out-the-wall consumption:

ROACH on standby with Xport connected: 6W, PF: 0.41 (only 1W of this is actual DC power, the other 5W is lost in the ATX supply).
ROACH powered up, but FPGA not programmed: 36W, PF: 0.88.

Peripheral power consumption:
Each ADC (Atmel part) at 800MHz contributes about 2W.
Each QDR contributes about 2W at 200MHz (TBC).
The DRAM contributes about 8W at 200MHz (TBC).

Example usage:
ROACH powered up, single ADC at 1GHz, FPGA programmed with 30% utilisation at 256MHz, with two 1k FFTs, using 2x 10GbE ports and Xport, but no DRAM or QDR: 45W, PF: 0.95.

It looks like peak out-the-wall consumption with FPGA fully loaded and all peripherals in use is around 70W.

More tests at various clock frequencies to follow.
