Hi Yashwant,

I hope to hear from all CASPER institutions this week
about their anticipated Xilinx chip needs for the next year,
for both large and small quantities, (rough numbers are fine)
and when they might need these chips.

I will aggregate this information and provide it to Xilinx,
including your request for 16 chips. Xilinx might ask that you and
others that need a large number of chips make a separate request,
but in any case, Xilinx asked me to try to summarize what
everyone needs for the year.

Are you planning any other board procurements in 2010,
besides the 16 you just told me about?
When? How many? SX95T-1?

Thanks.

Best Wishes,

Dan

Dear Dan,

I think this is a good idea. I find that when asking for a small number
of chips (2-4), my direct requests under the XUP program have worked out
well; however, for requests for larger number of chips, I find the going
much more difficult. Aggregating large requests under one umbrella
should definitely help in this context.

Right now, we are processing an order for 16 Roach boards. From
Digicom, we have quotes for both with and without the chips. It would
be great if this requirement for 16 chips could be included in your
aggregation. If the matter can be resolved before we place the final
order with Digicom (which is likely to happen in the next couple of
weeks), it will be of great help to our group !

    dear casper collaborators,

    our collaboration is growing and
xilinx requested we aggregate most of our donation
requests so xilinx doesn't have to process as many requests.

instead of each university or organization requesting chips,
xilinx proposed they would give us a bulk donation of chips,
perhaps quarterly, for academic and research use (not to be
used by companies - companies must buy the chips).
boards would be built, hopefully ahead of time,
so boards would be more likely to be in stock.
this is similar to what xilinx does with the digilent
    and netfpga programs.

universities that need one or two chips would
receive them without going through the xilinx university program.
large requests would likely go to xilinx's university program,
    as before.

are you comfortable with this? suggestions?

xilinx would like us to provide them with an estimate of the
casper collaboration's needs for the year,
for both small and large programs.

can each casper institution please email me a list of the chips
you anticipate needing this year (calendar year 2010)?

    1) rough number of roach boards
              rough date(s) needed
                (rough expected number and
if it's very uncertain, rough maximum, minimum)
              SX95T or LX110T? (most people use SX95T)
-1 or -2 speed grade? (most people use -1).

    2) number of iBOB boards? (expected number, and max/min)
            rough date(s) needed

    Best Wishes,

    Dan
