Hi, Rick,

I think there's more to a yellow block that pin assignments. In the case of the ADC blocks (at least the ones I'm familiar with), clocks are also brought in through the "yellow block" and the toolflow needs to be able to hook one of those clocks up as the system generator clock. For the original "iADC" boards, the ADC chip was configured by the PPC via a three-wire interface so there were additional interface requirements there as well.

Hope this helps,
Dave

At the risk of looking like a knucklehead:

I'm working through the "How to make a yellow block" memo, and it seems complicated. But it seems like the whole purpose, at least in my case where I have a digital input, not an ADC, is simply to define the pin assignments of my HDL. So my question is "Why to make a yellow block?".

Can anyone explain?

Many thanks.

Rick
