We have high confidence that we will be awarded US National Science
Foundation (NSF) funding for need-based travel support to attend the
CASPER 2010 workshop (16 to 20 August, Cambridge, MA). The intent is
that this aid should enable the attendance of those interested
individuals who would otherwise have difficulty in raising funds to
attend (mostly students and junior researchers). Generally awards
would have an allowance for air tickets, hotel, and the conference
fee, or a subset of these (e.g. someone based near the CfA can apply
for the conference fee). Please note however that there is a general
expectation that travel costs will be shared by the awardee or their
institution.
In view of the approaching workshop date and in anticipation of the
confirmed award, we invite you to apply for this support by emailing
Carolann Barrett ([email protected]) and Jonathan Weintroub ([email protected]
) by 15 June, with a short motivation in plain text (1 to 3
paragraph). Please include where you will be traveling from, your
background, affiliation, and involvement with CASPER, your reasons for
wanting to attend, and some indication as to why it is difficult for
you to raise funds. If you are planning to give a talk, please also
pre-register with talk title and abstract at:
http://casper.berkeley.edu/workshop_2010/
Those with a genuine interest but little CASPER experience, or those
doing DSP work with technologies other than the CASPER approach are
also encouraged to apply. The closing date for applications is 15
June. We will clarify the process for booking tickets and claiming
awards after making the awards, which we hope to do shortly thereafter.
Regards,
Jonathan Weintroub, Lincoln Greenhill and SOC
