Dear all:

It is big shock to the other side of Pacific. He looked so energetic and healthy. Lately he was working on the CoBI project for ATA.

It is a great loss not only to casper , also the radio astronomy community.

Best Regards

Hi:

I want to install the casper library to windows 64bits. But will the mkbof.exe
work in windows 64bits? Or someone has the 64bits version mkbof.exe?

Thanks

Wan

I'm very sad to report that Don Backer died this afternoon.
Don collapsed just outside his home, probably from a heart attack.

Don had a great life and was a wonderful man.
We will all miss him.

This is a terrible shock - I was hoping to speak with him on the phone later today. My condolences to all.

Justin

This is terrible news. Heartfelt condolences from the digital team in South Africa. We will all miss his energetic spirit and passion for radio astronomy. His pragmatic approach was admired by us all and we feel a real sense of loss.

Please convey our sympathies to Susan and family.

Thank you, Dan, for letting us know. What dismal news with which to start the week. He was such a brilliant, inspiring and vital person. I'm happy to have been able to call him a friend for so many decades.
Don had a great life and was a wonderful man.
We will all miss him.
Perhaps we can set aside some time at the CASPER Workshp next month to share our memories of Dan.

Tom
