Actually this is not true.
We demonstrated 8 Gbps over Internet a few years ago, with all the nordic coutries' traffic on top of it. No packet loss.

The backbone routers have enough memory.

Also doubled the traffic in your Internet2 a few years earlier, no problem either but some people were not very happy. Can send a picture where Internet2 is glowing red.
