Second announcement of the CASPER 2011 Workshop
10-14 October 2011, National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA), Pune, India
This year's workshop of CASPER (Collaboration for Astronomy Signal
Processing and Electronics Research) will be held at NCRA, Pune in India,
from 10 to 14 October 2011. Basic information about the meeting,
including the first announcement, as well as recent updates, can be found
at the official homepage of CASPER 2011 :
http://www.ncra.tifr.res.in/casper2011
In addition to talks and presentations on the latest designs, developments
and instrumentation from the worldwide CASPER community, the program will
also include invited special talks from industry participants, such as
NVIDIA, XILINX, National Instruments and the computer networks community,
as well as talks relating to the SKA requirements. Hands-on sessions and
tutorials on CASPER designs, including test runs with simple designs at
the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope, are being planned to help newcomers
to CASPER learn about the basic techniques. A preliminary list of
tutorials can be found on the CASPER 2011 homepage.
We gratefully acknowledge sponsorship support from NVIDIA, XILINX and
MTE-India for CASPER 2011.
Registration for the workshop is now open, via the registration form on
the CASPER 2011 homepage. There is a registration fee of $50 for
students, and $175 for other participants (and $100 for each accompanying
adult). This can be paid via credit card (for which the details need to
be faxed or scanned and emailed to the organisers) or via bank transfer.
The registration fees, alongwith the sponsorship support, will be used
primarily to provide travel support to students from India and abroad, to
attend CASPER 2011. All expenses at the conference venue, including cost
of both meals for all five days, and the conference dinner, are being
covered by NCRA.
Please note that there are three options available for accommodation :
guest house accommodation at NCRA (reserved for students applying for
financial assistance), guest house at nearby institutions (approximate
daily costs : Rs 1700 ($40) per person for double occupancy, Rs 3200 ($70
per person for single occupancy), and regular hotels in Pune (typical
daily costs : Rs 4000 ($90) to Rs 6500 ($140) per room). The number of
rooms in guest house accommodation is somewhat limited and will be
allotted on a first request basis for regular registered participants.
Hence, please register early if you would like guest house accommodation.
We have some funds available to support travel costs for students, with an
upper limit of $1000 for any one participant. Those interested in
applying for this support should indicate clearly in the relevant column
in the registration form, and also complete and submit the financial
support request form. Please note that those awarded travel grants will
be expected to pay the registration fees.
We encourage you to fill out the abstract submission form at the earliest,
to enable better organisation of the scientific program.
The deadlines for registration and abstract submission are 30 August 2011.
Travel grant awards will be finalised by 15 September 2011 and candidates
will be informed by this date. The program of oral and poster
presentations will also be finalised by 15 September 2011.
If you are not yet ready to register for the meeting, but are likely to
participate, do fill out the expression of interest form, so that we can
get a count of likely participants. Please note that participation will
be limited to the first 100 or so registrations, due to constraints of
space at the venue.

We look forward to seeing you in Pune this October.
