Thank you so much for replying to my cry for help.
You're exactly right. I was making a dumb mistake when trying to make the
clone OS's. I ended up downloading the file latest borph OS
here<https://casper.berkeley.edu/wiki/Latest_versions> and
using that instead. I mounted the usbstick where I wanted to put the OS
untar'd the OS into the drive as root.
