Ok I've checked this side and a few comments: 1. Dave you're absolutely right, this command will do the same and only do one write: gzip -c /mnt/bof/file > /usr/bof/file 2. We won't be adding tftp support to tcpborphserver3 for transferring boffiles. Too much other work! 3. The romfs is read-only and the etc is symlinked to /usr/etc, but there is trickery involved. usr only gets mounted halfway through the boot process. In particular rc.startup and inittab should be treated as if they are read only, because the are run before the symlink is created.
