As far as I recall, development of the mmc and usb storage/boot options was dropped because few people were using it. Most people are solobooting or netbooting. There should be room with soloboot for a few boffiles, particularly if they are sent as gzip compressed bof/fpg files. But there may be further developments that I'm not aware of.
