Could it be that your PPC is bricked? If the PPC is dead, then you will not see 
any activity on the serial port.

In this case, I would suggest shipping it back to Digicom, where they've got 
the required tools to reprogram it. It is possible to do so over the USB, but 
it requires a lot of customised, fiddly linux installs. If you've got a 
macgraigor tool, you can follow the roach1 PPC bringup procedure here:
