Dear All,

Shockingly, it has already been almost two months since the 2019 CASPER
workshop in Cambridge, MA, and it is now time to start thinking about the
2020 meeting.

As is now standard practice, the CASPER advisory board is soliciting bids
to host the 2020 CASPER community meeting. We ask that these bids take the
form of a 1-2 page expression of interest -- the board will use these that
will use these to make an informed decision about where to hold next year's
meeting before making an announcement to the collaboration at large.

*If you are interested in hosting this meeting could I please request that
you send me ([email protected] <[email protected]>) your proposals by 8th
November 2019*

Please document in your expression of interest the following:

- A general statement as to why you wish to host the CASPER workshop.
- Location and preferred dates for the meeting.
- Proposed Local Organizing Committee Members
- Whether the workshop would be "pure CASPER" or would have some other
parallel theme (as, for example, 2019's PIRE Summer School).
- Proposed (estimated) registration fee for attendees and students.
- Typical cost of accommodation near the proposed venue (in USD/night),
any cheap "student" options etc.
- Whether you can provide labs with CASPER equipment for tutorials and
how many people can be instructed at once.
- Any potential tours that might be associated with the meeting, eg of
nearby astronomy facilities or tourist attractions.
- Any industry sponsors or participants that you expect to be present.
- Anything else that you think would be appealing to the advisory board
and strengthen your bid.

It is typically the case that local organizers work with the CASPER
advisory board to come up with a compelling meeting program. Generous
CASPER volunteers are usually also able to offer some assistance in
overcoming the technical challenges associated with a CASPER meeting
(namely -- setting up the practical tutorial sessions). Hosts won't be
expected to face these challenges alone!

Note also that it is typical for the CASPER annual meeting to alternate
between locations inside and outside the United States. While this is not a
strict rule, it means that a preference will be given to non-US hosts for
the 2020 workshop.

Feel free to get in touch if you have questions about proposing -- it is
not meant to create a huge hurdle hosts need to overcome, but rather is to
make sure everyone gets a chance to be considered.

Cheers

Jack Hickish
CASPER Advisory Board Chair
