Howdy Casperites,

See below, info about the upcoming GNU Radio conference.

For those unfamiliar, GNU Radio is an open source software-defined radio
project, and has a lot of crossover with CASPER's use cases and interests.
As GPUs and CPUs get more powerful, there is an increasing amount of radio
astronomy work one can do using GNU Radio's tools and software, and
hopefully many of you at the recent CASPER workshop saw some of the GR
talks from the collaboration's developers and users. Having been to a GNU
Radio conference some years ago, I can attest to how much fun they are*.

Cheers
Jack

*If you've never been to a talk where the presenter is wearing a dog "shock
collar" around their wrist while explaining how to hack it, you really
haven't experienced peak open-source radio hilarity.

Dear colleagues,

As some of you know, there has been a lot of activity around GNU Radio
in radio astronomy, including new GNU Radio enabled backends at the
Allen Telescope Array, and the development of GNU Radio toolflows for
radio astronomy. The GNU Radio project is also now administered by the
SETI Institute (see
https://www.seti.org/press-release/seti-institute-and-gnu-radio-join-forces
for more details).

This year's GNU Radio conference takes place in Charlotte, NC from
September 20 - 24. Topics will include talks and workshops centered
around radio astronomy but also span a huge range of applications across
open source and RF applications, with lots of opportunity for
collaboration and discussion. Discounted in-person registration is
available until the end of June, and virtual registration (pay what you
wish) is also available. The first round of abstract submission has
closed, but there are still talk slots available until the schedule is
filled. Details are at https://events.gnuradio.org/event/8/

Steve
