Hi Jason, Yes you can use a 10 MHz ext. ref. clk with LMK on RFSoC 4x2. Yes, the LMK will need to explicitly load another configuration. There are methods in casperfpga to upload new exported register files from TICS and to program the LMK ( upload_clk_file(), progpll() ).
Attached is a zip of the original rfsoc4x2 clock files. Also included is an example clock file that uses a 10 MHz reference input targeting the CLK104 board used on the ZCU216 and ZCU208 (also has LMK4828B) that provides a 250 MHz output. All that should need to be done is to go from the example to the rfsoc4x2 is to enable the correct outputs on the chip for where they need to be on the rfsoc4x2 and then to adjust the frequency and PLL divider/references/etc. as needed to the frequency you would like. With the LMK, is it possible to use a 10 MHz Ext. Ref. Clk if it's plugged in, and the 160MHz VCXO OSC IN otherwise? Or do you need to explicitly load one or the other configuration? As a starting point, is there a repository for the original .tcs files that can be opened in the TICS Pro for RFSoC 4x2's? For example, the .tcs files that was used to generate /lib/firmware/rfsoc4x2_PL_122M88_REF_245M76.txt and /lib/firmware/rfsoc4x2_LMX_REF_245M76_OUT_491M52.txt ? Is there a secret stash of convenient LMK and LMX .txt files with convenient round numbers somewhere? Round numbers and powers of 2 are nice. I'd love 4 GSPS or 5 GSPS. Even the Gen1 4096 MSPS makes nice FFT spectral bins that are 1 MHz wide and a RAM capture that is a microsecond long (or twice these or half of these or whatever). The 7.68, 122.88, 245.76, 491.52, and 3932.16 MHz rates seem to stem from the 300 Hz/baud Bell 103 modem from 1962. This factor of 3 seems to have contaminated all comms rates ever since.
