the best way to see how an OSS project is alive or not, is to follow the code base. you can take a look at: 1. the list of commits ( http://groups.google.com/group/castle-project-commits/) 2. the activity on this list 3. the activity on the dev list ( http://groups.google.com/group/castle-project-devel/) 4. loking at OSS ranking services like Ohlo
