Hey Thomas,
What exactly do I have to do to make a "related" relationship.
The docs talk about it, but there is little indication of its
implementation. Will it autoload collections of objects for instance?.

One-to-one can be both dependent and related.
One-to-many can be both dependent and related.
Many-to-many can only be related.
