Oh, sorry...I didn't look into the source, just noticed the link and assumed it was an active project.

Jakarta Commons Cache hasn't had any activity because those who use it are satisfied with its abilities (I'm one of them). That said, I did contribute code to eliminate the reliance on the DBCP project's configuration classes ("JACL"), which has yet to be committed.
On the other hand, the "cache distribution" mechanism is incomplete and the originator of the project himself has said it needs reworking.
An actively developed cache at Jakarta is JCS, a part of the Turbine project. I've been waiting for them to break it out into a seperate project (as they've done with other sub-projects), and I've been waiting a long time.
I've heard good things about jcache, apparently at sourceforge.
