Thanks for you honesty. This is one of the issues that will be addressed with
the refactoring. Back in the 0.8.x releases there was support for polymorphism
but it was removed for architectural reasons. This was before my time as a
committer so I don't know the whole story. At any rate, this is high on the
list for the refactoring.
