To each his own but I prefer to keep the level in mine down a little. I stick my finger in the coolant fill opening and putting the first joint of my finger on the ring where the cap seals,(just below the overflow tube) if I feel coolant its ok. Antifreeze expands a lot when it heats up but it certainly doesn't hurt to fill all the way, there just may be a little overflow. My engine runs at 170 degrees no matter how hard I push it or whether the water temperature is 50 degrees or 85 degrees. In addition to topping off with antifreeze, it would be well to add some (gawd, having a senior moment) cooling system conditioner?? It has anti-rust and other inhibitor stuff in it, available at auto parts stores.
BTW, my oil pressure alarm and light do not work. I have no noise when I turn on the ignition key. This sensor is back on the port side of the engine somewhere around where the coolant drain is located. This winter on a nice day I'm going to try and find it. I have the replacement.
