I trailed a line once.  Didn’t really mean to, it was an errand dock line.  Once it wrapped around the shaft it stopped that engine cold.

John,

    I know of one fellow who trailed a line behind the boat while single handing just for that purpose, to get back to the boat/swim ladder. Never tried it but I think a tether would work better. I single hand a lot here on the bay and I just take a line with me if I need to go up forward in rough weather.
