John,  Now that I've read all the other emails...I just read an article that said grabbing a tow rope is fairly easy and doesn't jerk out of the hands of a MOB since the sailboat moves slowly.  (This is not a commentary on Escapade...I know she'll do 7 Kts with a good wind!). 

The stern ladder works in good weather; however, in a rough chop I think that ladder could become lethal. 

I think the other thing to remember is that if you find it difficult to get back in the boat, being towed may not be too bad of a thing.  In the Chesapeake you're likely run aground within an hour's time.  And as you know, running aground is my expertise.
