From Cayuga Lake to the Erie Canal to "The Flight" ( engineering masterpiece of the 1800's - lifts boats up a huge vertical distance in 9 locks to get to the level of the Erie Canal from the Hudson River), up the Champlain Canal and up Lake Champlain, out onto the St. Lawrence River, downriver along the Gaspe peninsula, out into the Gulf of St. Lawrence, continuing northward along the northern shore of the gulf along Quebec until reaching Labrador, out the Labrador strait and turning north far enough to be able to honestly say I sailed the ocean north of the strait, turn south, down to Newfoundland, Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, duck down again to the south end of Nova Scotia and play in that area, New Brunswick, Maine, Cape Cod, down along the shore of New England to Long Island Sound, NYC and up the Hudson again to the Erie Canal and home.

After that, the next time I'd turn left at the Erie Canal and head for the Great Lakes . . . . .

John,

I can only dream of having that much vacation time!

And, yes, sailing is how I would use it.  But probably, coming from Boston, I’d start with a trip to Nova Scotia, then over to Greenland, then to Ireland.  Maybe to the old trade triangle south, then West back to the Caribbean.   Ah, dreams!  How would we get through Winter without them?

So… where, if any of you folks could, would you sail? And for how long?  Brings to mind maybe the best name I’ve ever seen on a boat – Never Land.

A friend sent me this web link.  www.berrilla.com   Its about 2 Aussie's who after the 2004-2005 Sidney Hobart Race, took the long way home.  They left Hobart, sailed east around Cape Horn, to England and sailed the Fastnet race, thence south around Cape Hope and currently are nearing Australia hopefully arriving in time to sail this years Sidney Hobart.

The name of the boat is Berrilla, a 33 footer that I have never heard of, probably built in Australia.

This is absolutely festinating.  If I would do this, I would like to take more time.  But, to each his own.
