I may be wrong but I think you are referring to a washer that is called a Bellview washer. (not sure of the spelling)

Yup. My M-18 had a bungee cord to hold the throttle when I got her. I tried to tighten the friction screw under the compass, but it was tight as it would go. The fix. On the front starboard side of the engine there is a throttle bell crank. It is located on the forward end on the high pressure fuel pump. It has a screw with a smooth shank and threads on the end. The nut does not compress the bell crank so it can rotate. I removed the nut and added a spring washer over the smooth part. The spring washer gives it a little friction, but still allows smooth movement. A spring washer is very thin spring steel that has a slight curve. They are very common on aircraft, but I don't know if a hardware store would carry them. You could probably use a split washer and maybe some thin flat washers to do the same thing. It may take a few combinations to get it right. It has been several yea! rs since I did this and it works great. The throttle is easy to move and stay put.
