TF,
Yep, with the exception of the Golden Gate footage in one of the links...
This is "Home".
The one video of the 47' knocked down is actually at Newport Oregon (about
100 miles South, I believe. I've seen the whole sequence..
Not what I want to do on a Sunday Day cruise..
The rest of the video and stills are....
The School at Cape Disappointment WA, The Columbia River Bar..
I've gone across the bar in those conditions ( Dumb Ralph , Dumb Ralph )
I Will NOT ever do that again !
The area also has the Air Rescue School as well..
And If you are wondering .. Yes, Too many Young Coast Guardsmen have Died
in those very waters..
When the Bar is Nasty.... No one should be there..
I Salute the kids who do..
Their Motto of ... " You have to Go, You don't have to come back" pretty
much says it all..
And on a Sad note...
Just Yesterday (Tuesday),,, One of the 20 Columbia River Bar Pilots .Who
bring big Ocean Going Vessels across the Bar.. The very location in the
videos...
. Got knocked off of the Cargo Vessel's climbing ladder... he had just
delivered across the Bar...
They Haven't found him..
Bar conditions were likely pretty bad .. Water Temp 47 F. Wind was gusting
30 to 40 and the
Waves were probably 15 to 18 feet .
We have a beautiful river here, but She is ONE MEAN BITCH sometimes..
Ralph

I think people should see this...it's dedicated to the folks who
go out in the nasty stuff to save our hides. You need broadband
and Windows Media Player though, and maybe Quicktime for
some of it.
It's on Tim Zimmerman's website (Tim is the guy who wrote "The Race"
and he sails in the J22 fleet in Annapolis)
http://www.wetasschronicles.com/
it's the 4th story down on "The National Motor Lifeboat School."
Whoa!
click on the third "here" for the entire film....btw the guy upchucking
is really a dummy.
I guess this is out in Ralph's Neck of the Woods.
