We too have a 1984 Universal M18 diesel with a clear fuel filter housing. Works great (and we also have had overheating) - go figure.

Dave,
Thanks buddy,
I gave it a careful inspection .. No chips cracks or cross threads...
It looks like a warp in the inspection bowl IS.. the problem.

I just got a nice note from the RACOR tech saying , in brief, that heat could have warped it ..And that since my boat is an '84, that the bowl is old and that age of plastic was/is unreliable. He suggested I replace it with a Metal bowl. I probably will. Even though the See Through idea is good, I'll go with his suggestion.

While I can't say YET...this will solve it, it sure looks like that IF anyone has an older plastic See Through bowl,
they ought to replace the thing..

Like I said on another List... To paraphrase "Apocalypse Now"
I Hate the smell of Diesel in the morning.. It smells like Trouble.... LOL

Again, Thanks
ralph

Ralph -
It is possible that bowl could be warped from engine heat - though to be honest mine has been mounted in my engine compartment for 4 years and for the past 2 years of it's life my engine pretty much overheated all the time.

It's also possible that the bowl has gotten cross threaded or check for a nick in one of the threads - I had a raw water filter that had a chip and it started sucking in air.
