Larry,

You'll always have a place aboard Phoenix.

Ironic isn't it that the second happiest time for a boat owner is also their
saddest - on the plus side you've still got this little band of folks to
hang with -

Hi all,

Well I sold my beloved and cursed Dixie Chicken on Friday. Very nice guy
bought it. He got a good price on the boat. I'm suddenly very sad. You
really pour so much of your life, sweat, money and soul into a boat that
it almost seems to have its own personality. But I can see that I just
don't have the time and energy to put into working on it and sailing it
like I use to have.

C27's are great boats though, arn't they?! I helped the new owner shuffle
the boat to Calvert marina on Saturday. We sailed it. He was just loving
the performance. He kept refering to his old boat as a 'tub' compared to
the C27.

Ahhhh. So sad... So sad...

The wife seems pleased.

I mourn.

Dave, John,

Yes, this setup will work fine. I've had mine that way for several
years. As I moved into racing my cruising-laden boat, I changed my
mainsheet to this:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/sailrmann/new_mainsheet_setup.jpg I have
since changed my traveler to the straight-track and changed the blocks
to air blocks. Now, it is easier to control the mainsheet from either
side of the cockpit. The only downside is that the dodger doesn't mix
with it very well. But then I almost never use the dodger.

Dave,

I think that it will work just fine. I have had mine out several times
and find that the sheet runs much better now that one block is removed
and no more binding on the vang block.

The Catalina manual drawing 4.1.10 has the sheet routed to the
gooseneck. The original configuration can be seen at
http://www.sailtravis.us/

Also note the large cleat between the boom and mast step, it would

also

bind against the sheet.

John,

That is the way I have the vang and main sheet block set up on my

1982

C-27. I'm not sure if that is the way it was...I took the boom off

and

couldn't remember exactly how it was set up. My friend John of the
Escapade and I walked around the boat yard looking for an idea of

the

connecting points and decided to connect vang above the mainsheet
block. It seems that it should work well but have not really tested

it

yet. I've been out on two brief sails but nothing that would

really

test the set up.
