And with judious Gasketing, can be weatherproofed for mounting.   And if this doesn't sound like a good answer, I would think about mounting jacks or plugs that are already used in boats such as the Trolling Motor connections Such as  http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2034686 and simply make a small ADAPTER cable.   Also .There are a number of Weather proof connectors such as Trailer Connectors  that would work as well..
