Ralph,

Almost any DVM will do but you will need enough cranking time for the reading to settle (stabilize). You can buy meters with a peak hold function, which would be handy, but this is a feature on more expensive units.

The trick is to put one probe one side on each side of a connection, crank the engine, and record the highest voltage measured.

Judy,

I am curious. How did you measure each of those voltage drops?  What method did you use to determine the amount of drop ? What meter was used ?

I'm sure it would be of help to us all

Hi Andy,

We checked the whole starting circuit on our Atomic 4 equipped boat (Bijou, hull #3459).  Therre were at least 4 places where there were significant voltage drops.  Heres's a summary of what we found on our boat.  For complete details, go to http://www.blumhorst.com/catalina27/atomic-4-starting-system.htm
