The interesting thing is that somewhere between the time I measure and application of the finished result, the laws of physics change. Thus, instead of one inch being one inch, one inch becomes 7/8 inch or some such. That's the only explanation I can devise that accounts for the difference between my careful measurements and the improper fit of the final result.

There's a young man that wants to learn how to sail that's volunteered to help me w/boatwork. He's a carpenter by trade. I'll get him to do the measuring.

When you go to cut remember:

Measure once and curse twice...no, that's measure twice and cut once...

or in my case...measure a whole bunch of times, get confused by all the numbers, make the initial cut, realize you have now messed things up and call a friend (usually, John) to come and fix it or buy a new thing and pay someone to install it.
