After draining the oil, I removed the drain plug.
Yes it will make a mess, because there is a bit of undrained oil.
I drilled a hole through the plug from top to bottom.
The size of the hole was about 1/4 inch, if I recall correctly.
You will determine the correct size from the 1/8th inch pipe tap
you will use to tap the hole, from the outside of the plug.
Into the threaded hole screw a brass 90 degree fiting.
Into the fitting screw a brass valve.
Re-install the plug in the oil pan.
To the outlet of the valve screw a 2 inch long brass nipple.
Use a small hose clamp to attach a piece of rubber hose over
the nipple, length of your choice, I used about 8 inches.
I screw a small bolt into the end of the hose to prevent drips
from residual oil in the hose.
I recommend Teflon tape on all threads.
All of these parts are available at the autoparts store.
Now to drain the oil, I smply place a shallow pan under the engine,
remove the small bolt, open the valve and viola...

From my recent experience, very specific per engine. My Universal
(Impulsive is 1984) is a 5416, but a model 18 not 20. So the first
filter was a NAPA 1342 (298852 in manual) that fits the 20, but not my
18. Look on your current filter and if you're fortunate, the make and #
will be imprinted on the filter and readable. Bottomline, if what you
buy doesn't fit - return it for the correct one, assuming you haven't
"gunked" it with oil. And screw the old filter back in place until
replaced. My filter ending up being a NAPA 1347.

It's pretty easy just a bit time consuming (allow 1-2hrs). I just did
the oil change on my 5416. Ran the engine for about 15 minutes to heat
up the oil, used a hand held pump (took about 15" - key having the hose
into the dipstick port being rigid (maybe even use 1/4" copper tubing)
sending the old oil into a 1 gallon milk carton. My list of necessary
items to accomplish the oil change is:
3 quarts of diesel oil (about $3.50/QT)
1 oil filter - bought from NAPA automotive store (about
$8-10)
1 oil filter strap wrench - from NAPA auto store (about
$8-10)
1 short plastic funnel
2 plastic bags - zip lock for old filter and for hand
pump
1 paper towels or acouple rags to wipe up any spilled
oil
1 hand held pump (came w/ Impulsive)
While you are there, suggest adding antifreeze mix to raw water system
and biocide to fuel tank. Beats paying the yard $200 to winterize

For those who have the Universal 5411, how do you drain the oil?
According to the manual listed below, you siphon it out with a pump
through the dipstick port. That sounds too complicated for this
Southerner!

My understanding is as follows.
Not sure your engine is like mine (Universal 15) but the second
line
on mine is a water return hose. Universal 15 is fresh water cooled,
that is, the water that is pumped into the engine cools the engine,
it does not cool the water that is contained in a jacket around the
engine, such as in an automobile. I understand the water pump
continuously pumps water. If the thermostat is open (engine hot) water
enters the jacket around the cylinders, cools the engine and exits the
engine through the exhaust. If the thermostat is closed water does
not flow through the water jacket but flows through the second hose to
the water intake and starts the cycle again.
