Are you draping a tarp over the boom to provide the cockpit with wintertime
protection from the elements, or a summertime protection from the sun?

The C27 boom does not extend completely over the cockpit; and, if you have a
topping lift, extending a cover beyond the boom is difficult. A tarp across
the boom would provide a fair amount of shade and would keep rain (and gull
stuff) off the main hatch. Still, it would allow rain and snow (and gull
stuff) to enter the aft end of the cockpit. So, if you are concerned about
clogged scuppers and a possible flooded cockpit, the tarp would provide only
limited protection. Just a thought.
