Two sections, One short piece covers the Turnbuckle. The longer one sets on top of the short piece and is a section of pipe a bit longer than the Genny contact point on the shrouds.
End caps on each end ... Make a Bearing that allows the Top , longer, section to rotate on top of the short section....
As the knot at the Clew reaches the PVC pipe .. the Pipe roles and the Clew rolls over with it..
Some EXPENSIVE Tubes are available at West Marine etc.. but why pay the price when you can get any diameter and length at any Home supply store..
I have attached a rough drawing of my set up..
The Lower Short section can be made of a larger diameter to fit most any Turnbuckle.
However the ROUNDED end caps will be harder to find.. You'd probably have to use the Flatter Water Pipe End caps.. They will work as well..

- they begin to crack and fall off in chunks. Your screws make for a
- good alternative for the cotter pins. I have used a minimal amount of
- tape on mine, and that should suffice for now. But since my Genny
- sweeps hard across the shrouds on every tack, I need some protection
- from the turnbuckle to the spreaders.
