The mushroom will only affect boat speed. If you aux is running less than
75% of max RPM at hull speed then a mushroom is just fine. If otherwise,
then the mushroom would be a drag ;-).

Subject: catalina27-talk: Thru-hulls

I bought a new depth sounder and have to replace the thru-hull. The
exterior of the old and new are the same; however, the new transducer does
not fit the old thru-hull. The other difference is the old was a mushroom
thru-hull while the new is beveled. Some have suggested not beveling the
bottom but just use a lot of 4200, one has suggested I see if I can find a
mushroom thru-hull that will fit the new transducer, and two have
said...just bevel the hole.

Any opinions?

I don't see why a mushroom thru-hull (if found) would affect the
transducer...but could it.

I know this isn't rocket surgery but I have a terribly bad habit of over
analyzing everything before I do it...so any help (boat or psychological)
will be appreciated.
