New to sailing, bought a C27 last winter and enjoying it a great deal so far. I have 2 13 year olds and a 6 month old! We take the baby as often as possible, sailing is giving us an opportunity to share an activity as a family. My theory is that exposing children at a young age to an activity, they are most likely to pursue it and enjoy it later in life. I took my two oldest children diving when they were 6 years old (very shallow of course), my son dove a few more times and would like to get certified now. Diving not being ideal around NJ, Sailing is providing us with an alternative to spend some time on the water.
Of course looking at your situation, the two hour travel time seem like a lot and looking also at the financial aspect makes you wonder:-) Perhaps you could look into re-locating the boat closer? Some boat clubs can be a less expensive opportunity to sail VS a marina, perhaps worth looking around? Good luck!
