The July/August 2007 issue of Good Old Boat magazine had an article 
about using a cheap window unit to air condition one's sailboat.   Very 
informative regarding set up for companion way or forward hatch.

     I've been hoping the manufacturer's of those free standing ac units will 
begin making them a little smaller.   They look like a dehumidifier, have a 
pan that needs emptying (like a dehumidifier) but have a small dyer like hose 
to vent the warm air out.   A smaller version of current models seem like the 
would work well for boat cabins...yes, it would take up some floor space but 
that would be OK to help take some of the ugly out of hot humid Baltimore 
summers.

     But since they do not exist the using of a window unit is a bit 
tempting.
