I'd like to find some one to trailer mine to my home so I can work on it for
the winter

Joe,

Remember passing state Port of Entry weigh stations on the interstate?

I spent weeks trying to get seemingly uninterested state employees in
Washington and Oregon to issue permits in advance before my first haul north.
The truth is they are gear to fast in person response. I did hit a wide load
black out period in Oregon and had to sit for 12 hours the first time but they
had me in and out of the office in 10 minutes. Now wait over there!

California is not very economical on many such things so an annual permit is
around $100 or I think $15 a day on a by each move basis. Washington and Oregon
were both under $20 for an annual permit.

The big killer is the escort cars for loads over 120 inches wide. A C28MKII
hits it but not the C270 at 118 inches. A C27 is 106, which is only 4 inches
into the oversize load. The fine for not having a permit is designed to
intimidate truckers and is hefty. I talked with a many owners who are just over
limit that ignore and go.

I’ve even been known to skirt the rules while traveling the five miles to the
lake here. Sometimes I have the permit but don’t hang the signs and other times
it’s the other way around. If I’m going to hit the highway I always have both.
I’ve even had my permits inspected at bridge toll plazas so it definitely paid
to be in order.

With all this talk of trailering Catalina 27s I am wondering how difficult it
is to deal with perm its for oversize vehicles. Do you have to apply to each
state, and how far in advance? Do you have to give travel dates and routes or
do you get a blanket permit for a period of time for the entire state?
