Crimp terminals for wire connections has been preferred for may years.
Do a google search on:

crimp solder "cold weld"

And you will find many discussions. The first hit on the above search
words is http://www.groundfusion.com/faq.php with the quote:

"Crimping can be used in the vast majority of terminal to wire
applications. While other methods are considered strong mechanical
connections with high-performance electrical properties, crimping
provides strength under constant load in tension and severe vibration."

You will find many other such comments.
