Also, if ya need lead, I have a Cat 27 keel you can pick up when you come
down for the Mardi Gras regatta...

Mark, thanks for asking.

I decided that, since we still have some snow on the ground and temps in
the 20 and 30's,
it would be best to order the boards pre-cut as a kit....it will be
trucked to Baltimore
sometime early to mid next month.

I got a hold of a nice piece of 5/4 x 12" by 10 foot white oak, and I'm
going to
rip that puppy down to 5/4 x 5/4 x 60" strips to laminate together using
WestSystem®
Epoxy this coming weekend. Then using foil offsets from NACA I'm making some
templates of the NACA0012 offsets on 12" and 10" chord lengths...then
the fun begins
with shaping the laminated rudder blank down to an acceptable shape
based on the
NACA templates using a 4.5" grinder and #24 pad.

After that, I decide whether or not I want to do the same thing with 2
inch lumber to
shape the keel foil. I've amassed about 100 pounds of lead from a friend
who is a
stained-glass contractor (does big church restoration jobs) and I need
to carve a foam
bulb (male mould) so that a foundry (in the same neighborhood) can cast
the bulb
for us.

So, it's sort of coming along, but nothing big will happen until that
truck pulls up with the
crate of plywood parts. That reminds me, I better start clearing out
some space somewhere!

I'll keep ya posted,

tf
