Phil and John,
Thanks for the response. Anyone have experience with AGM type batteries?

Lance ,

C270's don't have much wiggle room on battery size so we have a pair of Group 24s. Life in our boat has always been tough on batteries so the Interstates subjected to the factory ferro-magnetic charger only survived a couple of years. Since then we've had no shore power making it hard to use a smart charger or even a maintainer to keep them up. Bottom line I'm not treating them well enough to reap any value from a higher cost battery.

I always replace in pairs. The last Walmart set outlasted the Interstates, most likely based on how they were maintained not technical construction. This year I found a higher amp/hour rated group 24 from Costco and went with those.

Does anyone have a recommendation as to batteries? Mine are slowly dying and I need to replace them. Any advice would be appreciated.

How are you gonna do it? Crane? Gin pole, the 40 footer down the dock or a bunch of buddies doing a reverse Iwo Jima?

Anyone have any experience removing the mast from a catalina 27?  I'll be undertaking the task this weekend.  Any good practices you have to offer would be most welcome.

Thank you and happy sailing.
