Some thoughts.

1. You need a block of wood to put under the mast when you first
lift it. With the mast sitting on the block you can now safely
disconnect the electric connector for the mast.
2. Be careful not to break the steaming light the new one is very
nice but until I lowered the mast I had no intention of getting a new
one.
3. A crane and two rigging professionals is the easy way to do this
job $$$
4. An A frame that is taller than the spreaders with lifting tackle
at the apex along with two friends is the K-Mart approach. The mast is
easily lifted and handled by two people but you don't want to
underestimate the loads on that A Frame. You may be lucky enough to have
a Pole and tackle at your club or yard to do the lifting. This is the
best and cheapest way to do the job but not always an option.

Subject: catalina27-talk: Demasting a catalina 27

Anyone have any experience removing the mast from a catalina 27? I'll
be undertaking the task this weekend. Any good practices you have to
offer would be most welcome.

Thank you and happy sailing.
